How will our village compare?

Two of the greatest villages in America are Nantucket, on the island by the same name in Massachusetts, and Pinehurst, right here in North Carolina. They are great models for all of us to study. We have diligently compared our planning to these great places, and sought to match the scale, texture and quality of these wonderful places to our plans.

However, there is one area in which we are not alike--both Nantucket and Pinehurst are MORE DENSE than our proposal! Note the “FAR” number. This stands for “Floor Area Ratio,” indicating how much floor space there is as compared to land area: The smaller the number, the “less dense” the development. And, if you have ever been to Nantucket or to Pinehurst, you know that these places feel wonderful, as true villages should.
